Zerynth and Baglini Join Forces for Smart Maintenance: Introducing UpControl, the Solution That Revolutionizes Elevator System Monitoring
30th July 2025
According to Assoascensori, Italy has nearly one million elevators and freight lifts in operation—the second largest fleet in the world after China—handling over 100 million rides every day. These systems are a vital yet often invisible part of the country’s infrastructure, ensuring the movement of people and goods in residential buildings, offices, industrial facilities, and public spaces.
However, this asset base is aging: more than 70% of elevators in Italy are over 20 years old, and nearly half are more than 30—posing increasing risks of malfunctions and unexpected downtime.
To address this challenge, UpControl was created—the new solution for real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance of elevator systems, developed by Zerynth, a leading provider of AI solutions for industrial operations, in collaboration with Baglini Ascensori, a company with over 50 years of experience in the elevator sector.
UpControl brings innovation even to legacy systems, helping reduce downtime, optimize service interventions, and ensure operational continuity in both residential and industrial environments.
“With UpControl, we’ve completely reimagined our after-sales service,” said Graziano Baroncini, Partner at Baglini Ascensori. “Thanks to our partnership with Zerynth, we can now monitor each elevator in real time, respond quickly, and deliver a service that anticipates issues instead of simply reacting to them. It’s a major leap forward that allows us to be even closer to our customers, with the reliability that has always defined us.”
The platform enables continuous remote monitoring of elevator performance, collecting real-time operational data and presenting it through a dedicated web portal. The portal features intuitive dashboards for viewing anomalies, usage trends, and critical parameters.
Designed with retrofitting in mind, the solution is compatible with both modern and older elevator systems, regardless of their original technology.
“In the elevator industry, unplanned downtime isn’t just inconvenient—it can have serious economic and operational consequences,” explained Gabriele Montelisciani, CEO & Co-Founder of Zerynth. “Think about a freight lift in a factory or an elevator in a residential building: a breakdown can disrupt production or hinder people’s mobility. With UpControl, we bring predictive maintenance to aging systems through a non-invasive, easy-to-install technology.”
One of the most significant achievements was the native integration with Baglini’s existing maintenance management software. This integration enables full automation of the after-sales process: collected data can automatically trigger maintenance tickets, which are instantly assigned to the service team based on configurable thresholds and priorities.
The result? A complete transformation of service delivery—from reactive to proactive. The solution significantly reduces unplanned downtime and streamlines resource management. Technicians can now act before a fault occurs, improving equipment safety and increasing customer satisfaction.
With UpControl, Baglini has combined its technical expertise with the flexibility of IoT, delivering measurable value to its maintenance service and laying the groundwork for a more predictive and connected approach.
While an elevator failure in a residential setting causes inconvenience and concerns about safety, in industrial environments it can disrupt internal logistics or slow down production—with serious financial implications.
UpControl marks a concrete step towards safer buildings, more reliable systems, and more efficient infrastructure management. Zerynth and Baglini reaffirm their commitment to innovation and safety, helping to modernize Italy’s elevator fleet—one of the largest, yet oldest, in Europe—by making it smarter and more connected.
